Educator (in part-time training)

Training objective and content

The vocational school specializing in social pedagogy teaches comprehensive social pedagogical skills. It qualifies students to take on independent activities and management tasks in socio-educational institutions.

  • Child daycare facilities in the elementary sector (e.g. elementary group, crèche)
  • After-school care and supervised elementary school
  • Facilities for people with disabilities
  • Youth social work/youth work facilities
  • Youth welfare facilities (outpatient and inpatient facilities, assisted living)
  • School social work
  • Educational health promotion facilities (e.g. child and adolescent psychiatric clinics)

The course lasts 3 ½ years. After passing the final examination, the professional title

with the title

" Bachelor Professional in dem Fachbereich Sozialwesen " is awarded.

Lessons

Lessons are approximately 14 hours per week and take place on Monday (1.30 pm - 4.45 pm), Wednesday (1.30 pm - 4.45 pm) and Thursday (1.30 pm - 6.30 pm). In addition, there are approximately two seminars from Friday to Saturday lasting 2 pm - 4 pm hours and four block weeks of 40 hours each (which can be recognized as educational leave).

The practical training takes place over 3 ½ years in socio-educational institutions with at least 10 hours per week. Of which, at least 300 hours must be completed in the elementary sector in daycare centres and a further 300 hours in another field of work

Admission requirements

The school admission requirements are a secondary school leaving certificate or an educational qualification recognized as equivalent.

If the school-leaving qualification was obtained abroad, proof of German language proficiency at level B2 according to the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEFR)" must be submitted.

Professional admission requirements for the specialization in social pedagogy are

  1. Qualification in a recognized training occupation relevant to the objective of the desired specialization in accordance with federal or state law as well as the completion of vocational school, insofar as attendance at vocational school was compulsory during the vocational training, or
  2. Completion of a non-relevant vocational training program of a comparable training program regulated by federal or state law and relevant socio-educational practice of 150 hours or
  3. Three years of professional experience relevant to the objectives of the specialization in a recognized child and youth welfare institution or
  4. Relevant socio-educational practice amounting to 150 hours as well as the school-based part of the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences, the subject-specific or general higher education entrance qualification; the periods of socio-educational practice are credited with beneficial voluntary services on the basis of federal laws.

The periods of professional activity or social pedagogical practice to be credited for the subject area of social pedagogy can be divided into a maximum of two different periods in different practical placements, which may not have been completed more than 36 months before the date of application. The practical periods can only be completed in recognized child and youth welfare facilities.

At the beginning of the course, proof of practical work experience of at least 10 hours per week in a field of work intended for the course must be submitted.

Costs and funding

There are no school fees. Learning materials are provided within the framework of the applicable regulations. For some learning fields or teaching areas, costs are regularly incurred that are only partially borne by the school authority. Pupils must bear expenses for school trips. The offices for educational support will provide information on possible funding.

Graduates who are in employment can apply to their employer for the block weeks as educational leave. You will receive more information on this when school starts.

Applications for the school year must be submitted in February of each year, namely the

  • Application for admission to the school

  • Copies of the relevant certificates
  • Details of your last professional qualification
  • Information on the year of graduation
  • Details of professional activity: Type and duration
  • Details of the internship: Type and duration
  • If applicable, proof of German language skills level B2
  • An extended certificate of good conduct for submission to an authority in accordance with Section 30 a BZRG (not older than 3 months) is required after acceptance of a training position
  • Documentation of sufficient protection against measles (copy of vaccination certificate or a medical certificate confirming existing immunity or a medical contraindication)

If the number of applications exceeds the number of school places, a selection procedure is carried out.
