Educational objectives and content

The training to become a state-certified care assistant at the vocational school specializing in social services is designed to enable students to provide support in assistance, care and domestic work fields. They assist the respective specialists at the facilities and can carry out the tasks assigned to them in a professional manner. They may be employed in hospitals, inpatient and outpatient care and nursing facilities for the elderly, rehabilitation facilities, psychiatric institutions, facilities for the disabled and private households.

The timetable includes the following areas:

Practical periods

During the course, 1150 hours of practical training are executed, consolidated and expanded in various outpatient care and inpatient acute or long-term care facilities. The practical periods are held in dual form (e.g. 3 school days/2 practical days per week) or a block over several weeks. The general school holidays are also used for the practical blocks.

Admission requirements
Duration and completion

The training comprises two school years. By passing the state final examination, students acquire the right to use the professional title

"Staatlich geprüfte Pflegeassistentin"/"Staatlich geprüfter Pflegeassistent".

The vocational qualification certificate also certifies that the qualification has been acquired in accordance with the guidelines under Section 53c SGB XI (Social Code XI) as an additional caregiver in inpatient care facilities.

The ever-increasing demand for care staff opens up further diverse career prospects based on the training occupation of state-certified care assistant.

Additional qualifications

The intermediate school leaving certificate is possible

  • When starting with the first general school-leaving certificate or an equivalent school-leaving certificate
  • If the overall grade point average in the final certificate is at least 3.0 and
  • If there are at least 5 years of English with a final grade of "sufficient" or a foreign language certificate in English B1.

The entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences (including the vocational requirements) is possible

  • When starting with the intermediate school leaving certificate
  • If the additional examinations in mathematics and English were passed with an overall grade of "sufficient".
Costs and funding

There are no school fees. Learning materials are provided within the framework of the applicable regulations, but costs may be incurred for some work materials, work clothing and school events.

The required instruction in accordance with Section 43 of the Infection Protection Act is provided during the course and is free of charge.

Training support under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) is possible. Advice is provided by the responsible office for educational support. In the case of vocational retraining measures, advice and support is provided by the employment office.

Registrations

Applications for the school year must be submitted in February of each year, namely the

  • Application for admission to the school
  • Complete curriculum vitae with educational and professional background
  • Copies of the final report card or last semester's report card
  • For foreign degrees: Proof of German language skills level B2
  • After confirmation: An extended police clearance certificate (not older than 3 months).

If the number of applications exceeds the number of school places, a selection procedure is carried out.
